How to Organize a Backpack

Backpack Organization Tips & Tools with Stasher

New school year? No problem. With busy schedules ahead, the best way to start the new school year is to be (and stay) organized. The best place for your kiddo to do that: their backpack!

Whether for storing daily supplies, holding snacks and lunches, or keeping extra clothes on hand, their backpacks store everything they need for a successful learning experience. Kids should be focused on studies, not wasting time rummaging around a disaster of loose papers and leaky pens. Plus, helping them learn to organize with reusables is an opportunity to teach by example, showing them ways to reduce waste. So, we’ve put together a quick list of how to easily organize a backpack with Stasher bags and bowls.

Reusable bags for backpack organization

Organize Small Supplies

Small electronics, such as earbuds and headphones, can be safely stored in a Pocket and easily slipped into an inner or outer sleeve on the backpack. A variety of fun colors like Aqua and Pink help your kid match their Stasher bag to this school year’s style!

The Go Bag works great for organizing pens, pencils, and other supplies that can be clipped to the outside of the pack for easy access during class. It’s also perfect for keeping school IDs, emergency contact info or allergy cards, money, and phones safe by clipping them to the inside of the backpack. And thanks to our leak-free Pinch-Loc® seal, these items will stay dry and safe!

Sort by Subject

Your kiddo likely has a notebook and/or binder for every subject already, so ensure they’re organized in a way that makes sense inside their pack. Keep art supplies and small sketch pads together in larger Stasher bags — like a Mega Stand-Up or Quart bag.

You can also easily secure stuff that tends to move around and make a backpack messy, like gym clothes or extra P.E. essentials like socks, in a Half Gallon bag.

Keep Essentials Close

Most other school supplies that your kid doesn’t always need but should definitely keep within reach (think staples, binder clips, rubber bands, or hair ties) can be safely stored in a versatile Stasher Sandwich bag. We also recommend creating a toiletry bag with the Sandwich for hand sanitizer, bandages, period cups or underwear, or whatever else your student could need.

Leave Room for Lunch

Think your kid can’t carry guac to school? Think again! With Stasher bowls, they can take their favorite dips, nut butters, and yogurts with them while staying leak-free. Other lunches, like salads and stir fries, are also ideal in a bowl as they can be eaten right out of it thanks to the stay-open design.
