Environmental Impact

Make the most of your Stasher

5 Tips to Make your Stasher Last

With any sustainable swap, buying a better alternative isn’t a one-time fix; it’s the beginning of positive change. No matter what you read, see, or hear, no product is truly sustainable and every product has an impact on the environment. We all need to think longer and harder about the full lifecycle of everything we buy. Here are some best practices to help ensure your Stasher products make the biggest possible impact on your life and the smallest possible impact on our environment.

  1. Wash them in the machine when possible. Hand-washing silicone bags and bowls uses significantly more water than machine-washing. Save time and water by putting yours in the dishwasher.
  2. Repurpose before retiring. If your Stasher is punctured or worn out, give it a second life! Customers have used old Stashers to store charging cables, collect litter while hiking, organize papers, and even pack travel essentials.
  3. Keep Stashers out of landfills. Silicone is a durable, long-lasting alternative to plastic, but producing it also requires more resources. Throwing a Stasher away means wasting those valuable materials. So, whatever you do, NEVER toss a damaged Stasher in the garbage–its the worst thing you can do from an environmental impact.
  4. Also, don’t put Stashers in curbside recycling. While our platinum, food-grade silicone is amazing, it’s not curbside recyclable. Tossing it in the bin can contaminate other recyclables, wasting time, energy, and money—or at worst, end up in the landfill.
  5. Instead, recycle responsibly with TerraCycle®. If your Stasher has truly reached the end of its journey, we’ll help you send it to TerraCycle, where it will be responsibly recycled. Request a shipping label , and we’ll take care of the rest.
